Bret has been working hard to complete an Executive MBA program this year. He has been spending two weeks at a time at the University of Tennessee, each two week period covering a semesters worth of classes. During this two week period the class is meeting in Chile and Brazil to study business in other countries. What an exciting opportunity!
The EMBA coordinator is putting together a daily journal of what the students are doing while they're in South America. I thought it would be nice to record her entries here.
2010 Travel Journal » Day 1 - September 4
Hello from Santiago, Chile! Internet connectivity has been a bit of an issue since arriving, thus the late start on getting news posted. I hope the problem has been taken care of, but only time will tell. The thing about international travel is you have to "go with the flow" In fact, that's the mantra we use every year for our international residence period.
All of the students and faculty are in Santiago now, and thankfully most everyone's flights arrived on time. Our hotel offers very nice boutique-style accommodations. The staff is friendly and helpful. We are close to many restaurants, a grocery store, pharmacy, ATM's and much more. The overall consensus is that we should be very comfortable here this week.
Sunday afternoon we’ll officially start the residence period with a welcome reception and introduction to the week in Chile. Then, on Monday morning the international immersion begins in earnest. We are scheduled to spend the day at Adolfo Ibañez University. The students will present the first part of their CAGE presentation (more on that later) and then we have several interesting business briefs scheduled.
