When we first saw the house we are renting in CA, we all loved it... Bret would like more storage for his toys, but aside from that it was easily the best 'fit' for our family of all the houses we'd seen. The kids immediately decided who would have which room, and had mentally moved in by the time we left!
We saw the house on Saturday and were heading back to Tucson Sunday night. Sunday morning we went to church in what we hoped would be our new ward. After church we met the realtor back at the house to fill out the application. He told us someone else had applied the day before, but the owners were still waiting on their credit report. If we wanted to be considered we had to scramble to get our credit report, signatures from Bret's employer, and the application all in as fast as we could. It was a crazy day, we didn't even have time to eat!
A few days later we were happy to hear we got the house! We didn't question it much, but just assumed the other applicants had bad credit or something.
Bret is in California this week, and met the home owners for the first time today. They told him that the reason they picked us was because of our kids. Whaa?? They had been down the street that Sunday so they could watch who was looking at their house. (That feels kinda creepy...) When they saw our kids get out of the car all dressed in their church clothes (and apparently not fighting at the time), they felt like we were the kind of nice Christian family they wanted to live in their house!
Now there's an unexpected blessing that came from going to church! And here's a big Thank You to the kids!

I have to admit it was a a bit of a shock to me...if the landlord had only been on the inside as the kids ran room to room stacking claim it may have turned out different.
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone not want your kids in their house?? I mean, they're great kids.
